The report summarizes the results of a 2-day Summit on the impact of extreme space weather on critical infrastructures on 29-30 November 2016. This event was co-organised by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency and the UK Met Office, with the support of the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center in order to take stock of space-weather risk reduction efforts in the EU over the past five years and to identify remaining gaps. Amongst other things, the report points out critically that up to now only 5 EU-countries (The Netherlands, Hungary, Finnland, Sweden and UK) as well as Norway have recognised the threat of extreme space weather and have included it in their strategic national risk assessment.
